Hey Dezel-
I lightened the photos a little because I was concerned they were too

them. You scanned them perfectly. The change was just me and my
developing computer skills. Thanks again and thanks for the
compliment too.

I agree Sandy ... it is a great feeling. I enjoy reading the entries on my
site as well as others such as yours. It's nice to know so many people are
becoming FREE to BE. No longer trying to just fit in.
I've been lurking a lot lately. I'm going thru some changes in my life.
I'm at a career cross road ... (IE. NO JOB!!) but I just know the season has
a special purpose. So I'm in true hustle mode now.
My moods have been in different but I have to admit my local SL family has
kept me inspired. I thank the Lord for my Sisterlocks business even with it
being part-time. It has kept me above water for certain. I've met some
wonderful people. I start my 8th new client this week, which is good.
My SL's are looking great. I need to take new pictures. I've colored them
again and they are getting much longer. They will be 3 years old in January
can you believe that!! WOW!! I missed my 2 1/2 year web page update. I
have lots of pictures but no will or heart to do the work.
Take care ... I miss everyone. I will be back real soon I just have to
keep the faith. PEACE

Up Do

2008-05-27 20:37:38

Many of you will recall that I could no longer put my hair in a roll in the
back after I cut off the perm. It's grown quite a bit but still not quite
long enough on the sides for the roll.
Well.. I was at Everette's today for a retightening; and as I was looking
through the natural hair magazines I came upon a picture of a woman whose
locks are about the length of mine... especially on the sides. She had her
hair up. When I saw the picture of the back, I couldn't believe I hadn't
though of this. Instead of pulling it all back into one roll, she had
three rolls going up the back of her head... so the hair on the sides was
easily long enough to get into the two outside rolls! I'm gonna try this
one this weekend! I'll take pictures if it turns out alright.
I hope I explained it clearly. :-)

OT -- Prayers Needed

2008-05-26 09:16:15

Hotep Everyone,
Martha here. I know that I haven't posted in a while, and I hate that
I'm doing it now under such tragic circumtances, but I know of
someone who needs our prayers. I received an e-mail from Yvonne
Mobley with the following message:
I am forwarding this email from Lynn Boone, a consultant in LA. She
and her mom attended the Homecoming this year. Mrs. Boone and Lynn
needs our prayers.
Thanks,
Yvonne Mobley
Dear Yvonne,
My mother, Lynn Boone, who you spent time with at the
Sisterlock's Homecoming 2002, is in the USC Intensive Care Burn Unit
as of 10/5/02 with 2nd and 3rd degree burns over about 50% of her
body due to a sleep walking event during which she scalded herself in
the tub. I am asking that you pray for her. It has been evident to me
throughout the day that the prayers are sustaining her -- despite
everything, she has been alert, talking, radiant, and transcendently
peaceful.
I understand that the course of treatment will be determined in a
few hours. I will keep you informed as to her condition. Would you
mind forwarding this e-mail to Joanne Cornwell, Celeste Geary
and Michelle Larsen? If it makes it to them, I am asking that they
pray as well.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Linda A. Boone, Homecoming 7/2002, Training 7/2002
I'm appealing to the LockItUp Crew to offer prayers for Mrs. Boone. I
know that I can count on you ladies.
Peace and blessings,
Martha

Sisterlocks Moisture Treatment. That's what I used during my early months,
with no slippage. It's a great moisturizer, and it kept my scalp from
being dry and itchy.
You can order it online from their web site.

Any Suggestions??

2008-05-26 01:22:44

My SLs are 4 months old. I have the dry-est scalp!!
I'm looking for solutions that others have used that did not cause
any slippage. I have to say that I've used some aloe moisturizer and
some ORS carrot oil (creme?)on my hair, and have never had any
slippage during my re-tightenings...but I don't want to over do it.
My consultant suggested oil...like the bottles of 6-in-1 oils. I
know better than to put pure oil in my sisterlocks at this point!
Maybe I should just band and wash 2 times a week??...this would stop
the itching.

Yes, they really are 3 days old. I had expected to see more scalp,
but I guess that with almost 600 locks and a big head like mine . . .
I have an appointment with my consultant in 3 days. She wanted to
see my hair in 3 weeks. I will upload the new pictures by Saturday.

surprised no one wanted to give theirs up :) (or at

Teen expelled over refusing to cut her dreads.

2008-05-23 20:27:09

From EURWEB
DREADS DEAD (KILL) TEEN'S HIGH SCHOOL START
Kisteesha Lanegan expelled over refusing to cut her dreads.
*High school officials at Whitefish (Montana) High School,
having designated dreadlocks as being an "outlandish" hairstyle,
declared that 15-year-old Kisteesha Lanegan cannot come
back to school until she gets rid of them. The school's
superintendent Jerry House said Lanegan was told she
would not be able to attend classes with her dreads prior
to the start of class.
"It's not really my hair," said 15-year-old Kisteesha
Lanegan, who hasn't been to school since the first day
of class. "They're trying to mold me into a person that
I'm not. My hair is totally irrelevant to education at the
school."
Superintendent Jerry House said Lanegan was told
she would not be able to attend classes with dreadlocks.
When she showed up on the first day of school with the
hairstyle, officials sent her home.
"We're not here as a fashion store or fashion occasion,"
he said. "If you want to dress in an outlandish way in your
own time, that's your business. That's not our business."
Lanegan said the ban makes her as good as expelled.

Sisterlocks to traditionals (long)

2008-05-21 20:59:38

In a message dated 10/4/2002 4:33:13 PM Central Standard Time,
luvissia@... writes:
When I was in my mid 20's I knew I wanted to wear dreadlocks when I reached
my mid 40's. I am 44. I made a decision to get Sisterlocks after careful
research but I told my consultant to make them as big as she could.
I was a little shock when she finished because every part showed and they
were so small. She assured me with time they would thickened up. I am not a
big (volume) hair person. As my locks thickened up so did the volume
especially on top. Some of my locks however did not thickened up at all.
After one year only 1/4 of the length of my hair was locked. I was reading
tips on dreadlocks from another site. The site stated that sometimes the
lock pattern can be twisted so tightly that it can never form knots and
therefore it cannot dread or lock. They were referring to the crochet
method. I do not know if that is true however it made since to me. It was
an explanation for me as to why some of my locks looked just like they were
put in.
In June I had my consultant combine some of the locks in the top to decrease
volume. This really did not look right because it was off balanced from the
back of my hair and the size of the locks were too varied in the top.
After one month I reseperated them. I noticed that they had started to attach
to each other in only one month time. They were twisted together but have
been retightened at the roots. I would have to weight about 4 - 6 months for
them to be repaired correctly. I still did not like the volume.
I waited 1 year. I liked Sisterlocks but never really loved it. I loved the
maintenance and wearing my hair free style but something was still missing.
Also in June/July we had several threads about size of locks and people
actually wanting them smaller. I wondered what was wrong with me I want mine
larger.
After my one year anniversary (9/9) I started neglecting my hair. I was not
sleeping in my cap and barely styling my hair. After 2 weeks of this my hair
started shedding. I felt something had to changed. I gave myself a deep
conditioner and hot oil treatment. I thought I had not had a conditioner in
1 year. After my conditioner I twisted my hair using two, three or four
locks so I could see the desired size.
I decided on three and went to my consultant to have her twist them for me.
I actually love my hair and have been swinging my locks. Something I never
did in the past. I will retighten them using the latch hook keeping my same
pattern.
I have twisted locks which look different and cute. I really feel my hair
will lock faster with a bigger lock. I have two locks which she cut to
combine. You can just comb right through.
I also really liked the size of Vanessa Williams locks on soul food. My size
is closer to her size and I still will have styling options when they get
longer. Right know they are in a bob style and the come to my mid neck in
the back. My ends are forming curly Q's again.
I will always admire Sisterlocks and do not regret my year at all. I still
spent less money if I was getting them twisted every two weeks. It has been
a learning experience for me and hopefully one for my consultant. I did say
what I wanted and trusted her for an expectant outcome. After taking the
Sisterlocks training I understand my she used the reverse 4 (the tightest
pattern) and why she made them the size she did. She said when she twisted
them I should have gave you Brotherlocks. I told her again I have no regrets.

the shipping or you can find out the shipping and I'll
send you that and you can send me the comb. It
shouldn't be more than a couple of dollars . . . (New
hot combs in the stores run about $10/each in Denver
but I don't want new ones.)
Any takers??
By the way, I just brought a huge bag of perm products
to my job and let my permed colleagues enjoy them.
All of my combs, brushes, etc are put neatly away in a
little storage box, but now that I think of it, some
women's shelter or something like that might want
them?? They're still in good condition and they might
as well get used. Just an idea.

Actually I thought you were talking about having to cut the perm off your
hair would leave it very short. That's what I thought you meant when you
spoke about looking masculine.
Um.... yeah.. I guess I see your point. I just see them as two totally
different things... not two methods of control.
I see relaxers as a way to change the texture of the hair so that we
can style it in ways that are designed for straight hair... a way to
conform to a European standard of beauty. I see locks as a way to style
our hair in its own beautiful texture... a way of living within our own
standard of beauty. I guess I prefer the word "styling" rather than
control. I don't feel that our hair needs to be controlled.
But the important thing is that you've found the information you're looking

Ladies, I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for
your responses. I have enough information to feel comfortable enough
to call for a consultation. I would like to give special thanks to
ChokoBunny, sister you hit my reserves in the center of the bullseye.
However, I have become a bit more optimistic than I initially was on
the matter of paying a consultation fee, now that I know there is so
much included and possiblly an application toward the actual service.
Here is another special thanks going out to Sandy, you were very
thorough about the information you offered, your information was what
I sought after from the start. Also Sandy, thank you for your words
of encouragement yet I feel there was a slight misunderstanding. I
would not be ashamed of my natural hair texture and by mentioning not
wanting to look masculine is not the same as saying that masculine is
unattractive. I was more or less saying that I would prefer to wear
my hair by my standard of control. Sporting natural texture, I don't
feel, is out of control but some style are a bit carefree.
Sisterlocks is a health method of control,by the literature I've
read, whereas relaxers offer an unhealthy method of control. Right?

Well, I charge for a consultation. I'll spend time on the phone
answering as many questions as I can, but I do charge to actually
look at someone's hair and give them sample locks (in additon to
giving them a more detailed consultation and explanation of the
process). You're paying for my time. The price of the consultation
(in my case) is credited toward the final locking session. If the
person decides Sisterlocks aren't for them, then it's only cost them
a small amount to find that out. It was recommended in my SL training
that we do this, but of course everyone is free to run their business

Re: [LockItUp] I want them, but..........

2008-05-17 13:07:01

They are neither. The hair is put into a locking pattern with a locking
tool... sort of like crocheting. Many people find this method of locking
easier because they can wash their hair immediately without worrying about
the locks coming loose (as they do with the twisting or palm-rolling
methods); and because as the hair grows, the new growth is also put into
this locking pattern with a tool instead of being twisted like traditional
locks. This means less tension on the new growth and less likelihood of
breakage due to constant twisting.
Pricing varies. Some people charge for the consultation and some
don't. Some people go with the recommended 3-visit package which includes
the consultation, the initial locking session, and a follow-up session
(which may include your first retightening). You should see two or three
consultants before you decide. Each consultant sets their own pricing
policy.

I want them, but..........

2008-05-17 02:52:04

Hello,
I was just looking for someone who could tell me more about the
sisterlock process. Everyone seems very secretive about these locs
for some reason. I had the opportunity to see someone who had gone
through the process, they were so beautiful not like those fat, natty
things I've been seeing.(No offense intended by this comment, I just
know I would not be happy with conventional locs) When I inquired
about the nature of the lady's style, I received an answer to the
nature of, you would have to pay your dues to learn anything helpful
about the process. I thought that this would be the way to go for me
but, all this secrecy has me FRIGHTENED.
I did have the common sense to check the web for for a sisterlock
site for more info, FOUND IT! However, the site still failed to tell
me what they are braids, twists, etc? Consequently, I contacted a
consultant, she told me I would need to come in with two inches of
new growth for a consultation and she was quick to tell me that I
would be charged a none refundable fee just to sit in her chair for a
few TEST LOCKS, she also gave me a price range for the actual
application.
Alright now, I don't have a problem with growing my hair out
natually, I have no love for the relaxer process,I know my adjustment
period will be brief. It's just that I would need a more controlled
way of doing this, everyone is not beautiful with unrulely afro kinky
hair, I don't want to look like a dude in the name of going natural.
And, what since does it make to get my hair braided when I know the
finances it would take for the braid process would take away from
that needed for the sisterlock process. Concluding, why is it easier
to find out how much the services costs than what the service
actually is, just seems odd.

Sandy's Soap/whipped shea butter

2008-05-15 23:05:46

You could make your own whipped shea butter by adding apricot oil. You
could probably do the same by substituting cocoa butter for the shea.
I've never used avocado butter, but it sounds like it would make a nice
addition to a skin moisturizer... in a small amount. As far as the other
things you listed, I used beeswax in my balm for cuts, scrapes, & bug
bites. I have vegetable glycerin but haven't used it yet. I've only used
coconut oil and apricot oil in soaps.
You can make your own hair oil/moisturizer. 2 oz. of jojoba with about 30
drops of essential oils. I'd use the rosemary & lavender for this. Or
rosemary & tea tree.
Look through our files area. There's a file in there that lists various
essential oils and what benefit they have for hair. That'll help you
figure out which eo's to use in your hair oil.
I don't know what kind of shampoo you use, but you can add a few drops of
essential oil to your shampoo, too... about 10 drops per ounce of shampoo.

jojoba oil; cocoa butter; coconut oil and apricot oil. The EOs I have are:
tea tree; lavendar; sage; rosemary; ylang, ylang; peppermint; grapefruit;

Sandy's Soap/whipped shea butter

2008-05-15 02:38:34

I know. Lots of places sell shea butter at prices like that. I was told
that I should charge more... but I like my pricing the way it is.
Whipping it is very easy. Melt it down and add some soft oils to it in
order to it so it will whip into a cream and not harden. Shea butter, as
you know, is very hard; and if you whip it up by itself, it will just
harden again when it cools. The more soft oils you add, the more creamy
(less hard) your finished product will be. I wanted to keep mine mostly
shea, and I chose two oils that have beneficial properties for the skin --
meadowfoam (expensive but well worth it) and sunflower (moderately priced).
I love the Persian Nights scent. I'm looking to purchase more of that
particular fragrance oil so I can make a bigger batch next time. This was
my first time using that fragrance, so I only made a small batch.
I try! :-)

Claire,
I'm glad you said something. I meant to mention it to Sandy before

Is it hard to whip shea butter? I ask, b/c I bought a tin, a 4 oz.
tin of shea butter from a store called L'Occitane, which I paid $35
for (crazy, I know!) over a year ago and have barely scratched the
surface of it. I hate using it because it's hard and I either have
to rub it in my hands to soften it up or grab a chunk and heat it in
the micro.
Thanks again Sandy for making your products available. I think I
will have to try the Persian Nights or one of the other scents next
time too. The scents sound delicious.
And lastly, Sandy shipped out my order the same day I ordered it and
I received it within 2 days! That's what I call service!

I have questions regarding how long or short you hair should be to start locs.
How long is too long? My natural hair is about 2.5 to 3 inches long if I don't
pull it. If I do, it's around 4 to 5 inches long.
If your hair is too long will it matt up?

Re: [LockItUp] Length of locks questions

I started with 9". I have been natural for about 4 years...cutting here and
there.
It won't matt up. I actually referred to my ends as matting up as part of the
loc process...its not matting..but doing the loc thang at the ends.
Only thing is....the longer your hair is, the longer the session will take and
the more money it will cost.
Three inches is a good length...

Re: Organic locking....

2008-05-12 09:30:22

Interesting question - so much so I had to come out of lurk mode :-)
I first saw locs in the 70s, worn by reggae musicians who were also
Rastafarians (Bob Marley for example). Then in the 80s I lived in
Brooklyn, NY, which has to be the epicenter of alternative Afri-
centric lifestyles & spiritual practices. My best friend became a
Rastafarian and simply stopped doing her hair one day - very much
free form! For more than 10 years, she shampooed, conditioned and
separated her locs but nothing more so she had locs of all shapes and
sizes. (At some point in the 90s, she drifted away from
Rastafarianism -- and her locs changed! She went to a loctitian and
had them separated into smaller, more uniform locs; from time to time
she will go to a loctitian to have them twisted and colored.)
So, even though I loved the look and freedom of locs, in my limited
view they were a sign of spiritual or religious beliefs that I didn't
adhere to. I thought it somewhat disrespectful to wear locs simply
as a fashion statement (I wouldn't have dressed up like a Hasidic Jew
just for fun either).
But I experienced my own spiritual rebirth in the early 90s and
without realizing it at the time, I really started getting rid of
old, hampering, destructive thoughts and behavior. I went natural
for good in 1998 without a plan about what I would do with my hair -
I was simply sick of limp, unstyleable permed hair. For two years,
from TWA to twists to headbands, I learned to love my hair. In 2000,
I suddenly became aware of Sisterlocks. Perusing the yellow pages
for a natural hair salon (in Columbus, Ohio? what was I thinking?) I
saw an ad for a salon that mentioned Sisterlocks. Then a woman at
church said that my twists looked like Sisterlocks. Then I
found "That Hair Thing" laying on a table at the library and read the
entire book in one sitting. It occurred to me that perhaps God was
trying to tell me something -- get Sisterlocks!
So after 2 years with SLs, I love them more each day and I have
become something of a natural hair evangelist at work (I have a
lending library of natural hair care books that is in constant
rotation in my building!). I think all hair care choices (perms,
braids, locs, fros, etc) reflect and affect our spirituality -- some
in a positive way, others somewhat negatively (I try to be open-
minded about perms but I really think they are bad, bad, bad!)
Wow, what a long response. Well, back to lurkdom.

Re: Phases of SL'ds - Freeform lockin' (Gina)

2008-05-10 00:55:06

Hi Gina,
Yes, freeform locking is allowing the hair to lock on it's own BUT
you DO separate the roots to keep them from joining.
Now ORGANIC locs are probably what you saw on the gentleman. That's
where the hair is allowed to lock on it's own with NO intervention as
far as separating or anything light of washing, perhaps conditioning
and oiling. But no fussing over them or "popping" (separating) of
the roots are done with organic locs. They are truly allowed to do
what they want to do, even it that means forming into 2 to 3 or even
1 huge lock!
Cherie

Really?? You do separate?? I thought you didn't. I saw a man
this week who had what I thought would be freeform locs. But,
then he really had what looked to be like 2 - 3 huge locs on his
head (uneven distribution).

that ACV and that right fast. Ya hear me?
Try the ACV straight to the scalp and rub it in.
I'm in love with a variation of the the rinse.
I substituted carrot seed oil (the EO, not the stuff from
Sallys) for the sage oil. Just 4-5 drops in the quart of
water and the smell lasts for DAYS. Make sure you like
carrot seed oil first.
If you don't have time to get distilled water, just
use tap water. I rarely get any distilled water for
the rinse myself. Dump in some ACV in a big jug of
water and shake in the oil. Don't bother to measure,
if you don't have time. If you don't have time to
buy the EO, and can stand the smell of ACV, skip the EO,
Just do something to get rid of those flakes! You don't
want them in your locs.

Hey Y'all! I just put up my week 8 pictures. I'm LOVING my Sisterlocks! As
far as I can tell, they're doing great. I'm due for my second retightening
(this one I gotta pay for) on Sunday, so we'll see. I have about 1/2 inch of
newgrowth, so that's encouraging. I'm experiencing very little slippage, mostly
around the edges. Like, my two sideburn locs on each side, and a few at my
nape. That's not bad, really. For my first retightening, she noticed a lot
more had come out. I have been meticulous about braiding and banding, so I'm
sure that's helping. One thing I'm noticing, to my dismay, my hair always looks
best right about the time it's due for a washing. :-( I am washing once a
week, and after the washing, it's just not as cute as it is the day or two
before it's due to be washed. It's tempting to let it go longer between
washings, but I can't stand the itch and the flakes. The flakes manage to hide
but I know they're there and it makes me nuts! I've been to busy (read: lazy)
to make the ACV rinse/spray, but I need to make it a priority because dry scalp
flakes have been an issue ever since I got my SL's. My consultant says to drink
more water. It's helping, but only a tiny bit.
Anyway, that's my update. I wish more of you would post more pictures, I love
checking out the progress of all your locs.

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the group, but became interested in Sisterlocks about 2
years ago. Since then, I wore braids for 8 months, removed them and
with 6 lovely inches, had my hair colored, then relaxed. My hair
began falling out in the shampoo bowl the instant the stylist started
rinsing the relaxer out! That happened this past May. I wore a weave
for 1 month (too expensive and glue in my remaining hair is not my
idea of "cute"). Then I found a new salon and the stylist cut all my
damaged (remaining) relaxed hair. This left me with about a 1/2 inch
natural. I loved it! My hair has a very tight curl (nappy) soft
texture that feels wonderful to me. I have a management position in a
large corporation, and the comments have been mostly positive ("you
look younger"). I rinse my hair in the morning, put a little leave in
conditioner, followed by a sculpting pommade for moisture and I'm
through. What freedom!
I now have 1 1/2 inches of natural hair and I'm still lovin the feel
of it but not the little afro look it's gettin to!
Did anyone start Sisterlocks with very short hair like mine? How long
after your first session did hair begin to thicken and cover the
exposed scalp? I may want to sport braids until I get more length,
but I'm just asking.
Love!

ADMIN: Clean Out the Files

Once again I want to remind you all to clean out your picture

we *must* delete a lot of these pictures in order to make room, as both of
these areas are to the point of being full or nearly full.

Off Topic: A Political Pause

2008-05-06 02:59:57

These are not my words but the feelings from the author are also mine.
Whether you are gay or not this still affects YOU!
Hello All,
I received mail regarding a man (Chuck Knipp) performing a racist,
blackface "comedy act" (Shirley Q. Liquor) in gay clubs around New
York. I initially deleted it because I didn't think it was a concern
for people in Chicago. I then went to look for some music & comedy
files to download and found that of the TOP 10 music files that had
been downloaded today and yesterday, 3 of the Top Ten were by Shirley
Q. Liquor (#1, 6 and 9). In the top 40 there were 16 of the files from
this same person. It's such a shame that this much ignorance surrounds
us everyday.
Stop White Supremacist from performing in Gay Clubs
Dear friends,
http://www.shirleyqliquor.com/
There is a white male named Chuck Knipp who is performing a minstrel
show in local gay clubs across the country. We had a successful demo in
NYC on Friday night and got his show cancelled! He's already taken
down pictures off his website because of our action.
About Chuck Knipp:
He performs in Black face, dresses as a Black woman and drapes himself
in the Confederate flag during his performance. The entire premise of
show is based on racist caricatures that not only make fun of Black
women, but re-enforces every racist stereotype. But it is the racist
images and commentary on his website that is the tell-tale sign that
Chuck Knipp's real agenda is to promote white supremacy. He uses
degrading images of Black people - both modern and traditional (from
the 20's-30's )- that can be found on any white supremacist website. He
in the most insidious ways attacks - Black people, Black lesbians,
Native people, women of color, Middle Eastern people, and as
well our political movements, including the LGBT movement.
This is not a misguided individual. This is not about freedom of
speech. This is a white supremacist that is being allowed to perform at
local gay clubs, do benefits for AIDS organizations, in attempt to
divide our movement. But we won't let him.
Please circulate this in your communities, and areas.
Please write editorials in your gay press condemning his racist show
and website. Outreach to your local gay bars and organizations in your
area do not invite him. Organize protests to stop his show from coming
to your city
- Shut down his scheduled dates in your town ...
Let's come out against racism ... Stop Chuck Knipp's racist show.
in solidarity

Re: Worth Saving? (gaps in locks)

2008-05-05 20:03:52

A few days ago, I wrote to the list regarding gaps of unlocked hair in a few of
my locks. Thankfully, Sigrid told me not to attempt to fix the problem myself,
and I went to my consultant today. I'm so grateful that I did, 'cause my hair
is so much better now. Thanks, Sigrid. I'm glad I didn't try to take matters
into my own hands.
It turns out that I had 3-4 locks like that, and a few other problems I didn't
even realize I had! I know now to visit my consultant regularly, even though I
know how to retighten my own hair. I retighten about every 3-4 weeks, but I
must be going though a growth spurt, because my consultant said I need to do it
more often (or everything is slipping as soon as I tighten it). So, I "did"
retighten the first inch of my hair! Coincidence? Hmmm...
Thanks again, Sigrid.

Thank you ALL for your response to my post. It was greatly
appreciated. I will go see EACH and EVERY locktician in my area (VA

with each here in this forum. I will refer to them by a number and
if anyone wants more information as to who these individuals are, I
will tell them.
Thanks again. My first consultation is tomorrow morning.

Re: [LockItUp] What is the BIG Secret?

2008-05-04 15:16:40

There's no secret. It's just that it's next to impossible to give you an
estimate without the consultant seeing your hair -- in person.
Pricing is based on the length, density/thickness, etc.... so without
seeing your hair, it's hard-to-impossible to guesstimate.
The ball park would be so big and vague that it would be useless and
irrelevant. Plus, as with everything else... pricing is also based on the
area in which you live. A consultant on this email list who lives in
Chicago may quote you a price far different than a consultant who lives in
California (for instance).
Go ahead and do consultations with 2 or 3 consultants. One thing that
would be helpful to you is our file that lists many questions that should
be discussed during a consultation. To print out the file, go to

Re: What is the BIG Secret?

2008-05-04 13:10:46

Wow! I didn't know you had to bring the money upfront to the
consultation.
Well, anyways, I think that the reason you can't get the answer you
want is because it is only until the Consultant actually SEES your
hair and the density, lenght, texture... and finds out what size you
choose from the chart, what pattern is to be used on you, etc. that
you can and will get a definite exact price. Other than that, no one
can tell you exactly how much you will end up paying just
from "hearing" or "reading" a description of your hair.
But, I'm sure one of the Consultants on this list could probably tell
you moreso why you aren't getting an estimate prior to your
consultation.

What is the BIG Secret?

2008-05-03 21:02:21

Just wondering what is the BIG secret about the cost of
sisterlocks? No one wants to give me a straight answer or even a
estimate. One person told me to bring $400 to the consultation,
which I don't have a problem with. But they didn't tell me, based
on the information I gave her, approximately how much the total cost
would be. I am aware that an estimate is an estimate. I'm just one
not to want my time wasted or to waste anyone else's time if it
isn't within my budget.
I have shoulder length natural hair and a lot of it. Right after
washing it isn't shoulder length (ouch), but after blow drying, it
is.
Can anyone give me a BALL PARK figure?

Re: My Mom -- A Cutie

Sigrid, your mom is looking good. Wish I could convince my mom.
Between the black dye and the chemical relaxers, she's not going to
have any hair pretty soon. Oh well.
I was looking through your pictures (again). In one photo you
mentioned your Dark and Lovely ends. Are you referring to the color
or something else? The reason I'm asking is because I had color and
texturizer on at least two inches of my hair when I got Sisterlocked
a little over a year ago. I think this caused some of my locks to
bunch up and flatten on the tips. We're gradually cutting them off
though. Did you experience anything like this?
By the way, you and Paleri are my lock idols.

You should not attempt it. Your consultant CAN fix it

What is your retightening frequency?

worth saving?

2008-05-01 13:34:59

I have a few questions for you seasoned SLd wearers. I've been Sisterlocked for
6 months, and I'm experiencing some "challenges" with a few of my locks. I have
a few locks that are like this:
1. (Starting from the scalp) an inch of retightened hair
2. an inch and a half of non-locked hair
3. an inch of locked hair from the initial locking session
As you can imagine, these locks look less than stellar. I've taking the
retightening class, and I wondered if I should:
1) try to save these locks by attempting to retighten the non-locked hair, or
2) rip of the inch of locked hair from the initial locking session
I suspect that this occured due to my doing roller sets (maybe the roller was
too tightly wound on that section or I slept on the rollers wrong). I'm all
full of questions! Any ideas? Thanks so much.
