Re: [LockItUp] Cutting locks n stuff

2007-02-28 21:45:56

Well..ok ladies...I'll return the unbraid biosulfur. I don't want the detangle
stuff. I'll look for the other one. See I was trying to be 'grown'..buying the
wrong stuff.....lol...
I'll use the sulfur 8 spray in the meantime.
As for the grooming/clipping. Do you have to do it? I mean....will the SL's
look jacked and fuzzy w/o grooming.
Cutting...well I want them to my bra stap so I won't be cutting for a longgggggg
time...and I don't care if one is longer than the other. Well that's what I say
now..I don't have nar lock in my head....
But when would be a safe time to cut? Like..what if your entire lock isn't
locked..only the bottom half. Perhaps its best to let a consultant cut it? What
y'all think?
Question...the 1st consultant put a knot on the end of the test locks..the
second consultant didn't. I like the SL's w/o the knot. They haven't
unravelled either...yet. The one with the knot...well I don't like it because I
can't spiral the end while its wet. Does that knot have to be there?

oil, and unbraid with biosulfur. I read the back of both they had
the same ingrediants with the exception of biosulfur. The word
medicated isn't on any of the bottles..but the bottle is purple and
white. So I got the biosulfur...from what you said in the email. I
didn't see braid spray with biosulfur...just braid spray ...plain.
I looked at both of my bottles and you are right. Only the Un-Braid
says with biosulfur but the Un-braid says that it has a detangler(on
the back) and the regular one does not.

Dry Scalp- sprays n grooming

2007-02-27 21:04:19

They had Better Braids braid spray (w/o the biosulfur), shampoo, oil, and
unbraid with biosulfur. I read the back of both they had the same ingrediants
with the exception of biosulfur. The word medicated isn't on any of the
bottles..but the bottle is purple and white. So I got the biosulfur...from what
you said in the email. I didn't see braid spray with biosulfur...just braid
spray ...plain.
Well...I got seven days to return it..lol..ha
But its working fine....I mean..I haven't itched at all today..and my hair isn't
all oily (as usual). Should I return it? It's 3bucks. lol.
I'll keep looking for the Better Braids braid spray with biosulfur (the unbraid)
kind.
:) ....lol.
Oh....what's up with locks getting fuzzy. Someone mentioned fuz in an earlier
email. My test locks aren't fuzzy...do they get fuzzy like braid fuzzy?
You ladies mentioned grooming...do they clip the locks like the braiders clip
the braids after they are done braiding? Know what I mean? Clipping the stray
hairs from each braid from top to the ends. I prefer not to have that
done...because they are clipping my hair. I'd rather smooth it down after I
wash it....by twirling the lock around my finger....that's what I have been
doing to the test locks.
What do they do during grooming?

Re: [LockItUp] French Roll

2007-02-27 15:52:58

Well it's really hard to explain cuz it's something that is done by
feel. You pull the sides back until all your hair is together in the back
as if you were going to make a ponytail low on the back of your head... at
the nape. Then instead of wrapping a band around it as you would a
ponytail, you twist it upwards... folding into the scalp and upwards so
that the tips of the locks sort of come out at the top. Then I tucked the
loose lock tips down into the roll and used hair pins at the "seam" of the
roll to hold it.
I hope that made sense. :-)

I've been meaning to ask this for awhile; how do you make a french

a picture of your SL in a french roll and figured you would be a good

I received my April Essence today. I was looking for Deb's jewelry
but did not see it. If anyone else has it maybe you can look through
it also in case I missed it.
They also had some hair care tips. This was the first time that I
heard of brushing locks. I am afraid to but they said a natural
bristle brush would help with the fuzzies. I guess it may be OK if
your hair is locked and the brush is very soft kind of like an infant
brush.
It also mentioned braiding and putting rubber bands on the tips to
make individual braid styles last longer when you shampoo.
Of course we already knew about that.

CONGRATULATIONS! It's amazing to me all of the different experiences
with SL's. I will be SL'd 1 year at the end of March. I just had a
retightening a week and a half ago and I JUST got my first trim to
get some of the perm out. My back has been pretty much locked for a
couple of months, but my issues involved the crown of my head, front
and sides. But especially the crown where the curl pattern is not as
coily and is more slippery. I'm sure it will take several more months
before it is locked. It really does take patience, especially since
my loctition/consultant has had her Sisterlocks for about 3 years and
I'm always dreaming about what my locks WILL look like.
I just ordered my Tapestry of Dreams book when I got my hair
retightened and I can't wait to get it. As soon as I do, I'll look on

Reconstructor - The Verdict Is In

2007-02-24 21:03:29

I love this stuff!
I washed my hair with Dr. Bronners almond shampoo. Then I rinsed with CD
herbs & flower petals herbal rinse. Then I put a fingertip glop of the
reconstructor in my palm, rubbed my hands together, and then rubbed it into
my hair. Then I did it again.
I rolled my hair (no braids this time) using the Jamaican Dream setting
gel. I used the blow-dryer a bit because my hair was *very* wet, and I
knew it would take forever to dry. Actually a few of the tips were still
damp when I took the rollers out this morning and I had to hit it with the
blow dryer again.
Anyway... I can really tell the difference from using the
reconstructor. Even though I used the setting gel, my hair feels soft
and... I can't think of the right word here... vibrant? It's soft but
strong. I love this stuff!
The roller set came out very nice, too. It's only 10 a.m. and already I've
gotten 3 compliments! I brought my digital camera to work so my friend can
take some couple of pictures. I'll upload them tonight.
So.. I guess I'll be using this reconstructor once a month. Is that often
enough?

Today my S/l are 6 month old! Just last Sunday, I got a retightening
and my consultant told me a good part of my back is loc'd. I was too
excited to hear that after the slippage drama I was experiencing in
that area. Anyway, she also did a lite grooming and I absolutely
love it. The only thing I want to do now is use a little moisturizer
on the ends that she left loose...oh and stop braiding and
banding...but I have Patience! My consultant said she might give me
the okay to use the moisturizer depending on how my hair is doing.

What is banding?

2007-02-23 00:12:15

This is something we have to do in the first few months when we wash our
hair. We are instructed to take the locks in bunches and braid them, and
then fold each braid over and band it. We are given a package of these
tiny rubber bands at our initial locking session. After we're done washing
our hair, we remove the bands and take down the braids -- or we leave the
braids in (for a braid-out style) until it dries.
The purpose of this is to not disturb the new locks when we wash our
hair. Once our locks are set to the point that we no longer have to worry
about slippage (this is about 6 months on average), we no longer have to
braid and band our hair when we wash it.

Reconstructor - I'm Convinced

2007-02-22 22:13:33

Y'all have convinced me that the reconstructor won't make my hair so soft
that the few not-quite-mature locks that I have will start to unravel. So
I'm gonna try it today. I'm not going to do the hot oil treatment,
though. My hair isn't having any dryness problems or anything, so I don't
want to do too much all at once. But it's been at least 2 years since my
hair has had any kind of conditioning treatment, so I think the
reconstructor is called for... if only to keep it as healthy as it is now.
I'll let you know how it comes out. I plan to roll it after washing, and
I'll take the rollers out in the morning, so I'll know the outcome tomorrow.

We're all good. Although I don't post very often, I AM here. I read

and many of the comments are exactly what I would have said. My
replies would just be "amen!" "you're so right," and "I feel the
same way."
Sometimes I feel bad because I'll sometimes compliment someone on a
new picture and realize I didn't compliment some other people who
have recently sent in new pictures, but believe me, ALL of the women
(and men) on this board are looking so good, and so happy to be their
nappy selves.

Braidout/Twistout

2007-02-20 15:54:44

I shampooed last night and this time I decided to twist my hair
instead of braiding. I like this better because the waves are
looser. Also the twists did not leave my scalp sore the next day
like the braids do. I know it seems strange but I have a very tender
scalp and sleeping on those braids left it a little sore.
I did the olive oil hot oil treatment and shampooed with Clean by
Neutrogena. I figured I needed some kind of clarifying shampoo to
get all of the olive oil out and the hair milk that may have been
building up. Besides, Clean was the only shampoo on the shelf at the
drug store that did not have that sodium lar.. whatever that we
aren't supposed to use.(can't remember the reason)
So then I twisted it and took them down this AM and I like it.

I want to apologize to all who wear Sisterlocks

2007-02-19 23:27:44

I remember when I first saw the videos, I was fortunate enough to see
them on the same day that I learned of Sisterlocks. After meeting my
now consultant, she had did her own locs and had only had them for 6
months, I was hooked, I watch the videos and I loved what I saw, and
I was scared of what I saw at the same time. These videos show these
women, with what I now know were probably fairly new locs, but I bet
someone would have to tell you to "close your mouth" if you could see
them now! The hair transitions into a mature state that most of us on
this list are still waiting for, no, this process does not happen
overnight. You must be patient, and loving toward your hair, your
hair is fixing to go somewhere it's never been before, and it's going
to be the best trip you've ever been on! I think the video you saw
had a young woman on it who I believe at the time had braces on her
teeth, she had long permed hair, and I think she had on army
fatigues, anyway her name is Monica, and her hair today looks
nothing, and I mean nothing of the way it looked in the video.
Monica is also the Dr's neice, I think, I know she is family to her
in some way, but this girl has some of the most beautiful locs you'd
ever want to see, but guess what? No way did it happen overnight.
Those videos are close to 10 years old. Oh yeah, that would be
Monica on the Sisterlock site under the photo section. You really do
have to feel this thing before you do it. Even though you might be a
little bit scared to do it, most of your soul should be telling you
to go for it. This is something you just have to feel first before
committing!!!Get familiar with the term " It's not a Hairstyle"!
Yolanda*13m

Where can I find?

2007-02-19 10:57:28

I'm not sure who it was that was looking for product to soften their
locs, but here is what I think you could do. I don't know how long
you have been locked, but When I was about 11m I found a stash of
daily herbal conditioner, this one is by ASante', unfortunately they
have gone out of business, I'm glad I had ordered several bottles
when they were in business. Anyway this mild conditioner has
softened my locks tremendously. I mist my hair almost daily, and
it's a very fine mist, also if I need more spritz I also use a
distilled water and lavender oil mix. I bet you could find a herbal
leave in conditioner, this one has burdock, chamomile, irish moss,
rosemary, yarrow, ginseng, confrey, watercress, aloe vera gel,
hydrolyzed collagen, biotin, panthenol, vit-b3,tocopheryl acetate(vit-
E), absorbic acid placental protein, corn oil, okay now I will list
the things I'm not sure ofbut because of the way my hair feels they
must not be to bad, amodimethicone, Nanaynol-10, tallowtrimonium
chloride, polysorbate 20, methylchloroisothiazolinone,
methylisothiazolinone, lactic acid, fragrance. I thought I read
where someone mentioned a product that was a vanilla based herbal
rinse. I bet you could use that as a daily leave in conditioner,
anyway this helped to soften my very coarse hair, made it much more
touchable. Yolanda*13m

Re: [LockItUp] I want to apologize to all that wear Sisterlocks...

2007-02-19 05:03:33

Good. This is the best route to take. You can't really have SL done while
you're on a trip and then go home. You need to have them done where you
live so that they can be maintained properly. Also you need to talk to
people (consultants and clients) in person to get a true understanding of
what Sisterlocks are all about.
Lastly, everything is about individual taste and opinion. I've seen the
videos and the hair doesn't look fuzzy to me. But remember that all locks
will go through a fuzzy phase -- whether traditional or Sisterlocks -- so
be prepared to have patience and work through the various stages that your
hair will go through.
You can make the suggestion yourself. It's not necessary to have anyone in
particular make suggestions. Simply call the home office number and leave
your suggestion on their voicemail. Or write them a letter.
Btw, the videos were made in 1993 and 1994.
Thanks for the explanation. I'm sure everyone here appreciates it. I know
I do. Personally I didn't take offense at what you said (after all,
everyone is entitled to their opinion), but I did take offense to the way
it was said and the fact that you pretty much declared that Sisterlocks are
wrong for everybody simply because you felt they were wrong for you. It's
all about individual preferences. :-)

Re: I want to apologize to all that wear Sisterlocks...

Klocs,
I guess I'll be the first to take a stab at addressing your post.
You said that you've seen several pictures of Sisterlocks and you
liked the way they looked. But then you said you were disappointed
in the Sisterlocks you saw in the video. I've never seen the video--
hopefully someone who has can comment on it. Many of the sisterlocks
pictures on the website, including the consultant pictures,
are "mature" locks, meaning they've made it through the fuzzy,
sometimes curly stage.
I'm gonna try to be nice about this part. WHAT DO YOU MEAN OLDER--33
YEARS OLD??!! Thirty-three is a baby. When I lie about my age, it's
older than that! (I'm kidding with you) Anyway, I don't know what
the age has to do about it, but maybe their hair was fuzzy because
they were new Sisterlocks. Also, your own hair texture has a lot to
do with how your Sisterlocks will end up looking.
Right now I'm going through the "fuzzy" stage. I'm looking forward to
mature locks, but it's still good. I still get compliments EVERY DAY
from all kinds of people. Locking is a process, whether it's
Sisterlocks, braidlocks, or traditional locks. You really don't end
up with locks overnight.
Still, I can't imagine "horrific" looking Sisterlocks. I haven't
seen any yet that don't look good to me.
Good idea to meet with the consultant. He or she can answer all your
questions. Be sure and do your research and be sure you are 100
percent comfortable with YOUR natural hair. I don't know what will
happen with you, but when I saw Sisterlocks in person--that was it--I
WAS SOLD!
Good luck.

I will soon have better close-up pics of my hair. I will go for a re-
tightening next weekend and will take a pic., that way more
definition can be seen. After I shampoo, my hair gets more fuzzier,
making the locks appear larger than they are; I end up having to play
in my hair by re-twisting the lone hairs around the locks.

I made a comment a few weeks back about Sisterlocks... it was ugly...
Please allow me to explain WHY I said what I said .... I stumbled
across a pic of a sistah that had SL and then another and then
another
and was like WOW! "Dread" locs that dont look dreadful... My
perception was OH MIGOD so small sectioned neat... sophisticated I
WANT THEM! So I went to the SL website looked around saw these
AWESOME
pics of sistahs and brothas with these tinee kinda fuzzy lookin
locs....WOW! Still amazed I clicked on "consultants/trainers" I
clicked on Philly (seeing how I planned on taking a trip up there in
the Spring to see a friend that I havent seen in 13yrs who by the way
has loced hair) okay well I emailed the consultant she immdiately
e-mailed me back.. we talked and talked about the process.. and the
cost.. and the follow up.... I was still EXCITED about SL's..okay she
recommends that I buy the video "Come Home to Sistalocks" so I
immediately went home and did just that!!!!!! I ordered it.. 14.95
plus S&H... I WAS ON MY WAY! The video arrived..... Sistahs.. I have
never been so disappointed in my life... this was NOT what I had seen
on the website? The video looked like it had been done back in the
late 80's.. the women were all older (um 33yrs old).. I looked at
them
and said I dont wanna look like that? There hair was curly and fuzzy
and looked horrible??? I WAS DEVASTATED
After lookin at that 10 min video.. I walked away feeling like aint
no
way umma pay anywhere from $450-$650 too look like like THAT? So see
ladies I made the comment that they SL's "were the ugliest things I
have ever seen" because they looked Horrific in that video.. I SAY
ALL
THAT TO SAY THIS.. Obviously I offended MANY and that was not MY
intention..I sincerely apologize... I cant help going back to the SL
website and looking around in AWE! I LOVE THE NEATNESS...MANY OF THE
SISTAHS DONT HAVE THEM CURLY? I intend to meet with a consultant so
that we can discuss and I can SEE for myself SL's up close and
personal(smile).... Can someone suggest that they update the video..
umm sure that many may or may not feel as I did about SL's after
looking at that video....
Peace& nappiness!

Dry Scalp- CC

2007-02-17 23:18:04

I will definately go buy that.
Well folks...
I have the money!!! Yep. A bit of surprize to me! I didn't think I'd have it
till April. So ..you know that I want to run and get my SL'S!!!!
But I won't. I need to deal with my scalp first. I washed my hair/with test
locks last night. I really like how they look and feel. I am trying to imagine
my whole head with them... :)
I tried another medicated shampoo for Psoriasis (misp?) and my scalp feels
better. I didn't put any sulfur 8 on my scalp..only a little oil on the
problems spots. I feel fine :). Granted the real test is 6 days from now....
Its funny...I am so trained to drench my hair in cremes, oils and grease that
its really like...withdrawal to not do it...lol. I even took the jar of grease
out with the intention to place it between my thighs and start saturating my
scalp. Instead, I put it back in my linen closet.
So folks...I am going to use this shampoo for a month, get the braid spray...and
attempt to make one of the recipes in the file.
Thank you all for your help...honestly...y'all are better than dematologist!!!
:)

Dear Sandy,

Re: Dry Scalp- CC

2007-02-16 04:55:02

CC OK I finally looked at the bottle last night, it iS BETTER BRAIDS,
it is in a white & purple bottle medicated bio sulphur, it is a light
spray & it is especially made to stop dry, itchy scalp & flakes,
believe me it works really well, I don't spray it on my scalp I spray
it on my finger tips & massage my scalp. I only use it on my scalp
sparingly I don't spray it on my locks and you don't have to use it
every day only when you need it, IT IS VERY GOOD!!!!!!!

Re: Good luck, Lois!

2007-02-15 12:52:27

Congrats on making the decision to get S/Ls done. For my experience,
I researched S/L for about a year and participate in this group
before I got mine put in, so I was not nervous... just anxious to
have them done. I had to wait about 6 weeks in between the time of
my consultation and my locking session because my consultant had
other clients! :-)
Well, only you kow if you're too concerned about other people's
reactions, but keep in mind its a normal, human response to want
those we like to like what we do. But, you'll find that stopping
the "chemical madness" and getting locks not only frees your hair and
scalp but will free up other areas in your life... probably because
your thinking about a major issue in every Black woman's life (hair)
has changed and that start a chain-reaction to other areas of your
life. Your family and friends will be so impressed with your S/Ls
that you'll be amazed why you even worried about what they would say.
Yes, S/Ls are beautiful to look at and touch. Your S/Ls are gonna be
gorgeous, but do keep in mind that everyone locks look slightly
different because our hair textures, length, color, etc. are
different. Enjoy your journal...

Reconstructolr

2007-02-14 08:44:23

Sandy what you need to do when using the reconsructor is go a head
and braid your unlocked locs together and use only a small amount of
the product. I have a few locs too that are not as mature as others
and I braid them together, mine are the ones along the hair line in
the front of my head and the braiding of the unmatured locs works
really well for me. I use the product for the second time today, I
think I will use it at the first of every month. Oh yeah! Congrats
on your input on the Sisterlock site, I haven't seen it yet but I'm
going there next! Yolanda 13 m

Re: [LockItUp] Where can I Find...

2007-02-13 19:40:41

You can get castor oil in health food stores and co-ops. I'm not sure
about the glycerine. I know online stores that have it, but you said
you're not looking to buy online.
Which hair spritzer are you making that calls for glycerine? I don't think
I've seen that one.
-- Sandy

Re: Where can I Find...

2007-02-13 14:08:35

Whenever I want glycerine, I usually have to ask the pharmacist at
the drug store to order it for me if I don't see it on the shelves.
Castor oil can also be found in the drug store (CVS). Hopes this
helps.

Re: Wish me luck!

2007-02-12 12:15:32

I know exactly what you mean. I waited for about a year before I
FINALLY got locked up. By that time the nervousness had worn off, but
the excitement stayed, and is still going. My locks are eight days
old. I know that I know that I KNOW that I made the right decision.
My daughter (16yrs. old) doesn't like them, but I don't like her
relaxed hair either. I had my hair locked STRICTLY for ME. My
hubsand just wants my hair long, no matter what it looks like.
Sisterlocks looks beautiful on everyone. I have YET to see some bad
looking sisterlocks. Life is short, but it's up to us to make it
sweet. Enjoy your journey.

Re: [LockItUp] Dry Scalp!!!

My problem is also only in the top. I take two
tablespoons of the Flax oil everyday and I drink, at
least, 80oz. of water every day. I've used Ebene's
Scalp Therapy in the past, it works. I just don't use
it every week when I wash. Maybe that's something I
need to look into. In addition, I will start oiling
my scalp.

Re: [LockItUp] Help!!! New locks, dry scalp problem

Try the apple cider vinegar rinse. It should help.
*If* your consultant says it's ok, you could *very sparingly* moisturize
your scalp with the Sisterlocks moisture treatment. That's what got me
through those early months. But remember to get the ok from your
consultant first, and remember to use just a teeny bit and only on the scalp.

Help!!! New locks, dry scalp problem

2007-02-09 14:01:05

Help!...What can I put on my extremely dry scalp? My locks are only
six days old, and I don't want to put anything on them that would
make them unravel or anything. Im waiting to see what my consultant
recommends but in the meantime, I know that I can get excellent
advise right here too. I haven't put any oil or anything in my hair,
I just sprit it with a little water, shake and go. My scalp does not
itch, but I have enough flakes to make a bowl of cereal.

there a particular "Sisterlocker" you would recommend? I did get a

in blind.
Hello M
Sandy was very through in answering your question re: cost, etc., so
there's no reason for me to revisit that subject.
However, as a recently Brotherlocked brother in the Washington, DC
area, I will highly recommend Evelena Washington and her daughter
Jennifer as top notch, cream-of-the-crop Sisterlock consultants.
While Evelena was my primary consultant, Jennifer worked on me as
well almost the entire time. Their home was a very comfortable
enviroment and they were both very pleasant hosts. I enjoyed every
moment of my 13 hour session. They've both been consultants for a
long time, and Jennifer was one of the first Sisterlock consultants
on the east coast and knows Dr. Cornwell personally. If you don't
already have their contact information, just send me an e-mail and I
will gladly send it to you.
Much luck and success to you,
Marcus

Dry Scalp!!!

2007-02-08 23:23:49

CC, I too have that annoying dry scalp. After 13 months I still have
not beat it. Jeanine might have something with the idea of diet
being the culprit.I noticed that when I am regular with the
supplements that even the dry skin on my feet react, and the winter
scaliness seem to soften a great deal. Somehow I have gotten away
from my routine of not allowing a day to go by that I don't take my
supplements. I've got to get it back together!!! Please let us know
how the Ebenes scalp oil works for you. My dry scalp like yours does
not itch, and is only really noticeable when i scratch at it to see
if it is still there, it is also only in the top of my head. I
should also be drinking more water. Good Luck to all of us who have
this problem!!! Yolanda*13m

Re: Braidlock

2007-02-06 21:16:08

A braidlock is nothing more than starting locs with braids.
I know folks don't say, "toollocks" or "twistlocks" or "coillocks";
but it's just to signify that the locks were started with braids.
Many people STILL do not understand how locs can begin from braids,
but they can and do.
It's just a term. Some people maintain them by palmrolling or
twisting the roots and some use a crochet method or latch hook method
that is in some ways similar to the way you retighten your
Sisterlocks.

premature locks

2007-02-05 09:35:00

Hi, I have been trying to grow locks since June of last year. The
base of the neck has locked but not so for the rest of my hair. I
have extremely fine hair. I have someone washing and/or palm rolling
each week. It still isn't doing much else. I am going to California
for a few months and hoped to locate someone in the area to maintain
what I have or supplement it. I'll be in Modesto, CA, but can on
occasion travel to Oakland/San Francisco.
Please help. I leave in a couple of days.

2 Questions re Sisterlocks

2007-02-05 09:12:23

I'm at another hair crossroads. Haven't had a perm in years, I've done braids,
locks, now I'm back in braids (w/extensions) but am really sick of them. (The
only reason I got rid of the locks is that I really was not happy with the way
they were rooted - I had worn them about 1.5 yrs.)
For the past two weeks or so I've been surfing the net, visiting dift. sites,
paying particular attention to info. about Sisterlocks. Just one question: can
anyone tell me approximately how much it costs, i.e., the three sessions and
long term maintenance).
Also, for anyone out there in the Wash., D.C. metropolitan area: Is there a
particular "Sisterlocker" you would recommend? I did get a listing of several
individuals from the Sisterlocks office, but it would be nice to have some
background information as opposed to going in blind.
Any input is appreciated.

Well I had my second consult today. She was chill also. She put 4e
slightly bigger SL's in my head on the front/top of my head so I can
really see how they are as I wash my hair. She advised against
getting really really micro small ones...like the two on the sides of
my head...near my ears.
I am excited.....been playin with the test locks already. :)
I was going to do it in June..now I want to put them in in April. So
I made the appointment ladies!!! I am looking forward to it!!! Her
locks were nice also.

Hello All,
I just uploaded some pictures of my daughter with her one year old
Sisterlocks. I added her freshly groomed locs pics in the Grooming
folder.
She's without that ugly bandana, THANK GOD! And she indulged me
and "allowed" me to take a photo of her locs in an Up-do!

Just wanted to say congratulations! I know you are LOVING your new
locs! Like I was telling my neighbor, locking my hair has been one
of the BEST things I've ever done for my hair. It's so freeing in
more ways than one.

Hey Carol,
Thanks for posting this article. I had read it a while back and I am
going to print it out.
The author/poet is a member here. She's not Sisterlocked, but
braidlocked. The one and only DivaPOET! :-)
Yeah, the name is befitting 'cause sistah-girl is B-A-D with a pen
and paper. I fell in love with that article the first time I read it.
Once again, hat's off and kudos to Miss D.P. for that no-holds-barred
article!!!

Finally! I am all locked up!!!

2007-02-03 06:01:09

I am just having the time of my life with my hair. I can't tell you
how many compliments I have recieved already. The compliments
started after my consultant put in the first two or three locks. We
were in a barber/salon shop, and one of the guys that work there
started asking questions, and saying how good the locks (2 or 3
sofar) looked, and he wanted some too. The people at my church and
on my job are SICED!! I had to stop one man on my job from getting
carried away from running his fingers through it. And when people
realize that this is ALL OF MY OWN HAIR, they are speechless, except
one guy who said "da---- baby!!!!! thats really tight!" The women
like it too, but the first thing that they say is "I could'nt sit
that long," Or "how do you take them out?" When I explain that they
are locks, (I refuse to say the word "dred") and that they are
permnanent, their eyes kind of glaze over. It's just like in Ms.
Cornwell's book when she says that "they are now the wannabes that I
use to be." Oh well, if you don't get it, you don't get it...
So far I have only misted my hair with water and twisted it, and the
next day finger combed it out, and it is just beautiful.
Guess what Sandy, I just LOVE MY SISTERLOCKS TOO!!!

case of Toxemia. (sp) Her doctors are making a decision this
morning whether or not to take the baby. It's lungs have not fully
developed.
Being a labor and delivery nurse for 12 years I have a great deal of
experience with toxemia which we call preeclampsia.
The best but not only cure is delivery of the baby.
There have been great advances in the care of preterm infants. We
count weeks instead of months so for 7 months the infant could be
between 28 to 32 weeks which the latter would be better. There is
even a medicine or treatment for undeveloped lungs.
Even so, you are correct, prayer is important and I will certainly
pray for your friend.

I had a retightening yesterday. My consultant said my hair is locking up
nicely. I still have some places that are being stubborn. I have some areas
where my hair is that very soft texture. She didn't tell me I could stop
braiding and banding though...maybe I should call her...oh well it won't hurt to
continue at least until my next retightening. She also said I could probably
start using the moisturizer after my next retightening. I can't wait to see what
difference the moisturizer will more in my hair. She also did a lite grooming
and my hair really looks good if I say so myself. Ladies....here's a big, big,
big announcement.... I LOVE MY HAIR!!! I'm glad Dr. Cornwell remained focused
and achieved her goal. Isn't it amazing how we are all effected by someone
else's decision to not give up but to bring her idea/dreams to fruition.

Sad To Say...Carol

this is good news Carol - I know u will be happy when she is ready for the
perm. I have a customer for you. She is tired of her locticians busy schedule.
Can I give her your name and number? She lives close to you.

I totally agree. My 13 year old really wanted a perm, then she
really wanted Sisterlocks, now she doesn't. That is why I would not
put them in before because she changes her mind so often. At least
she is not saying that she wants a perm anymore. Tonight I cut the
last bit of perm out of her hair and started micros(braids) for her
graduation pictures this week. I am glad that the perm is gone
because now I can braid or twist her hair and don't have to always
add extensions.

Sisterlocks and teenagers

2007-02-01 11:31:09

I find it sad that Aquila wants to remove her sisterlocs. I think it's best to
start Sisterlocks on a younger child. Sisterlocks take a while to fully mature
and perhaps teenagers aren't prepared to go through the developing stages. And
I'm pretty sure if a teenager has well developed sisterlocs, they wouldn't want
to change it for relaxed straight hair.
And Kimberley, your niece Denia's locs look so beautiful. I wish I had hair like
hers at her age. She's a very lucky girl.

Re: Sisterlocks Reconstructer

2007-02-01 06:09:04

Jennifer I know what you mean I love the SL's reconstructor too, but
you can't use too much, it is very thick. I use a little & leave it
in my hair. It is a very good product it will last for a long time
because you only use it once a month & you use it sparingly.
